FMP Week 3

Before my crit with Laura this week I had been watching 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and the BBC Three series 'Some Girls'. Both of them had one thing in common. Scenes that were extremely chaotic and I had decided that my objective for this week was to look into this more circus like style.

In my crit with Laura we decided to set some targets for the week before we break up for Easter.
She recommended I look into Mike Leigh and the Royle Family if I wanted to emulate a farcical dynamic. We talked about how the charm behind having very chaotic moments on screen is being able to one poignant/moving moment that catches the audience off guard in the middle of all the chaos and that my task would be to find an intimate moment between the characters.

I also continued looking into different comedy styles.

Primary Research.
Asking people what sorts of Comedy they enjoy  4th Wall breaks,Surrealism, Sketch comedy, Stand up comedy, slapstick, amusing photos random humour, satire, radio shows, memes ,one liners. Am also asking them to send me their favourite memes so that I can find patterns of what is niche humour to help me write relatable comedy.



Heroin Insulin
This week I had an idea that I want to develop further over the holidays about  Charlie's character walking in on Bernaliya taking insulin at house party but because he is drunk he assumes that she is taking heroin. I would like for this event to be the climax of the series with other episodes leading it up to it. The dynamic between Charlie and Bernaliya is very. argumentative and I think this incident should help the two of them become firm friends. I have been taking suggestions from friends on how to develop this idea further.
Things to Do over Easter

  • Decide on the story I want to tell. Me and Laura decided since my story idea has changed so much since my proposal it is important to not get too attached to the series concept and instead try and figure out what the best fit for the story would be.

We began photography by being sent off to the library to find three images that we invoked a memory in us. This was to help us begin to understand the process of research and how it was important to go looking for inspiration. After we had found the images we then had to present them to the whole class and explain what significant they had for us. I photocopied the cover the 'Polar Express' DVD, a pictures of some brownies from a cookbook and a picture of a book shelf. Week 7+8

How my creative process informed my Final Outcome My final outcome is a 4 minute sitcom style pilot for what could be continued on as a mini web series. When we wrote out proposals I had initially started with the intention of making a series; however I didn't want to be married to my original idea so I experimented with different storytelling styles such as a short film, and different types of series.
