FMP Week 1

My Proposal + Initial Research  My intention for the FMP is to produce a series that explores the feeling of community and shared experiences. When I originally had written my proposal I was interested in producing a series of micro shorts that portrayed one event from several perspectives. I was inspired by a short film idea I had earlier in the year about trying to get a seat on the Jubilee line to North Greenwich only for the whole carriage to become empty at Canary Wharf which is the penultimate station. Christmas Project+Crit

Over the Christmas holidays we had been set the task of making a 1 minute film that presented a personal approach and explored the 'unseen' dimensions of Christmas. I was immediately interested in exploring the objects we associate with Christmas but struggled to generate an idea. The last few projects I had worked on had all been non fiction and I was keen to try and make something fictional especially to tie in with the types of films that I personally enjoy during Christmas. I started by making list of all the objects that represent Christmas traditions and any memories I associate with them. I based this on stand up routines by David Mitchell and Michael McIntyre that question why we choose to accept certain odd traditions in the name of Christmas Spirit.  The common ones most comedians touched upon was keeping full grown trees inside the house and Christmas crackers. Life Drawing

Today all of Group 2, had a life drawing session. I was particularly nervous about this as I have never considered myself to be someone who can draw. Our tutor this week was really helpful in showing me that drawing is less a talent that you need to be born with to be able to do and more a technical skill that can be practiced.  My confidence grew through the day as we used a series of different techniques and materials such as charcoal and continuous line. This activity has taught me that if I continue to practice my drawing I will become better at it and that I don''t need to be so shy about drawing.
