Pursuit of Happyness. https://vimeo.com/255531162 Fleabag.  https://vimeo.com/255531051 This week we got into pairs to produce two one minute Title sequences, with our tasks being we couldn't use digital software to produce text and that we had to either compose or arrange our own music. Pursuit of Happynes We chose the pursuit of Happyness for the title sequence to a film because there is a scene, in which Chris Gardner's character solves a Rubik's cube in front of a future employer. Rory had suggested that we place the letters of the key cast and crew on an unsolved cube and we show somebody solving it to reveal the names of the characters, I decided to look up Rubik's cube related DIY to begin researching how to go about adding the text to the cube and I found many cube decoration tutorials that involved painting the cube. This gave me the idea to paint the cube black using acrylic paint for the when we show the names and then for there to be a transition

Titles 1

This week we started looking at Title sequences. This week was a chance to explore how to incorporate text into an image and we were also encouraged to not use digital software to use text. We began the week with a workshops looking at text and genre. During the workshop about text we were given a number of words on a sheet of paper and given the task of presenting them in 5 different ways using only a photocopier,,scissors and glue. I struggled with this because we were encouraged to think about how we were using space on a page and because I am normally so dependant on being able to use different fonts and colours in software. The next part of the workshop asked us to go and incorporate these words into images. Where we struggled at first was with not simply placing text over the image and instead incorporating the text into the image. We then had a genre workshop. This was important because title sequences

Advertising Project: Research

Link to project. https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1OZuuVDvsUcgO4Dw7e3KW7MzMGapusxr0 We started the new term off with a week long project looking at advertising. This project asked us to carefully consider the meaning of the images and language we use in our work, in this context to persuade our audience to buy into an idea we are selling. We had a near pod lecture that asked us to consider in greater detail and we learnt the following terms. Sign-An image that has a universally recognised meaning Symbol-An image that has a meaning added it to it within the context of a film or advertisement Latent- The underlying meaning that is implied that appeals to your subconscious Manifest-The surface level meaning that is implied. During the near pod we watched a series of advertisements and tried to identify these features. We were then set our tasks. We got into groups consisting of 2 filmmakers, an animator and a photographer. Our task was to create a 1 minute advertise

We started the week watching a couple of the film 4x4 competitions shorts. Trying to identify what the set up and pay off was in each story. Touching distance http://www.rob-savage.co.uk/touching-from-a-distance/ Since we only had a week to produce this film, our group was keen quickly think of an idea so that we could quickly start filming. We decided with the film title 'Birdwatching'. About someone who appears to voyueristcally be looking at a woman when in the end it turns out that he is in fact being watched by a bird. This project proved to be a huge learning curve for us As soon as we had our idea we happily set out to find the first free room within college with two bird puppets, that Beth had brought in and used our classmates as actors and sta

Transcription Week 2

I found myself a little stuck with last week's idea about showing how different cultures prepared food. So I decided to look back at my favourite images from last week's exhibitions and revisit just why it was I wanted to focus on food.  When we visited the Illuminating India exhibition my favourite series was a series of photos by Raghubir Singh depicting the cafes and food delivery systems of Mumbai. I have lived in Mumbai and the Iranian cafes and 'Dubba System' is something that is quintessentially unique to Bombay life. The whole time we were at the exhibition I found myself excitedly trying to explain the charm of Iranian cafes in Bombay and their history to anyone who would listen. I was feeling very nostalgic for Bombay and decided to look for other representations of Bombay life. I decided to revisit the film 'The Lunchbox',where two strangers com

Christmas Project+Crit

Over the Christmas holidays we had been set the task of making a 1 minute film that presented a personal approach and explored the 'unseen' dimensions of Christmas. I was immediately interested in exploring the objects we associate with Christmas but struggled to generate an idea. The last few projects I had worked on had all been non fiction and I was keen to try and make something fictional especially to tie in with the types of films that I personally enjoy during Christmas. I started by making list of all the objects that represent Christmas traditions and any memories I associate with them. I based this on stand up routines by David Mitchell and Michael McIntyre that question why we choose to accept certain odd traditions in the name of Christmas Spirit.  The common ones most comedians touched upon was keeping full grown trees inside the house and Christmas crackers. I had originally thought about making a talking heads style documentary about the memories people asso
