This week we got into pairs to produce two one minute Title sequences, with our tasks being we couldn't use digital software to produce text and that we had to either compose or arrange our own music.

Pursuit of Happynes
We chose the pursuit of Happyness for the title sequence to a film because there is a scene, in which Chris Gardner's character solves a Rubik's cube in front of a future employer. Rory had suggested that we place the letters of the key cast and crew on an unsolved cube and we show somebody solving it to reveal the names of the characters,

I decided to look up Rubik's cube related DIY to begin researching how to go about adding the text to the cube and I found many cube decoration tutorials that involved painting the cube. This gave me the idea to paint the cube black using acrylic paint for the when we show the names and then for there to be a transition to reveal a coloured rubick's cube to symbolise the protagonist's struggle from poverty to wealth. We bought a number of rubrik's cubes of different sizes to see how we would be able to fit the letters on the cube. We settled on a 6x6 cube and printed out the letters and stuck them on the cube using adhesive dots.

Our next point of call was to find locations. We wanted to recreate significant scenes from the film. However;  we had filmed the same day we prepared the cube and since it had taken us longer than we had expected and we only had our hand model for a couple of hours we decided to rethink our locations list. We had planned to film on a basketball court in King's cross but due to lack of time I suggested that instead of going to a basketball court we try and use the netting outside greenwich pier and try to disguise it as a basketball court. The other thing that we had not considered was getting permission to film around canary wharf. We hadn't realised that the property around canary wharf was private so as a consequence we ended up having to film our final shot outdoors.

In terms of music I decided to do a track of simple piano chords as I was keen on creating a melancholy ambience and I thought the one instrument track would be enough to achieve this.
